Festival of the Living Rooms, the virtual convention held the weekend originally scheduled for Consonance 2020 (March 20-22, 2020), postponed due to the rapidly escalating response in California to COVID-19. I heard it was being organized on Facebook by Blind Lemming Chiffon when I proposed a house filk the same Saturday, so I coordinated with Lemming and wound up hosting all three nights of open filking in Zoom meetings that lasted 8.5, 8.5, and 12.5 hours respectively. The Gallery view in Zoom resembles the iconic opening visual sequence, using the the then-new "multi-dynamic image technique" created by Canadian filmmaker Christopher Chapman, that accompanied this theme song of the 1969-74 sitcom.
Here’s the story of a filk convention
That was scheduled at a very nice hotel.
Lots of fen had plans to go
For the weekend,
Until the thing befell.
Here’s the story how coronavirus
Made conventions things officials can’t condone.
All us poor fen wanna be together
But we were all alone.
’Til in one week Denver’s visionary lemming
Using Facebook Live and YouTube and then Zoom,
Knew the con might still be resurrected.
In the Festival of all our Living Rooms.
The Living Rooms, the Living Rooms.
It’s the Festival of the Living Rooms.
