I just added about six lines and altered a couple of others, most of this is unchanged from the original.
In a little café just the other side of the border,
She was a-sitting there, giving me looks that made my mouth water.
But they told me, “Stay out of her way,
Or you’ll have to face Big Bad José.”
And I knew, yes I knew, I should leave — then I heard her say,
Chorus: |
Come a little bit closer; you’re my kind of man: So big and so strong! Come a little bit closer; I’m all alone, And the night is so long! |
Well, we started to dance. In my arms, she felt so inviting!
And I just couldn’t resist, oh just one little kiss so exciting.
Then I guess I got carried away,
And my fingertips started to stray.
And I knew, yes I knew, I should stop — but I heard her say,
(Chorus)
The musicians called out, with a knowing wink at each other,
“She won’t look at you twice, once José gets his hands on you, brother.”
Then I heard the guitar player say,
“Vamoose! José’s on his way!”
And I knew, yes I knew, I should run — but then I heard her say,
(Chorus)
There was no time to run, and no place to hide if I could run.
Then I heard José say, “Well, Ynez, you’ve caught me a good one!”
And he looked at me sort of the way
A bullfighter looks at his prey.
And I knew, yes I knew, the next words I’d hear from José:
(Chorus)
