"The Bridesmaid Dress" by Deirdre Flint + “For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her” by Paul Simon (which, yes, I’ve used before)
What a dress she had:
Swathed in sea-foam green,
Crass with crinoline of teal and tangerine.
Parasol for rain.
She floated, bustle buoyed,
Much to the sharks’ dismay.
She used one four-inch heel
To shish-kebob a lamprey.
’Til she found land.
Under a butt-bow flag,
Her rhinestones lit a fire.
She dined on wild game
She’d hunted with a bra wire
Then: Homeward bound!
As she sailed home,
Tacking her tacky train,
She got her money’s worth
And used that dress again.
Now she loves that dress!
She wants more like it!
