After “Dragon Flight” by Cynthia McQuillin
When I unpack my possessions, among those I like best
Are the books that fill up my every wall.
I’ve sorted them by title, and along with all the rest
Are Dragon Flight, Dragon Quest, Dragon’s Egg.
And there’s Dragon Drums and Singer,
which the three I mentioned first
Go between.
With the Pern books leaning toward
The book by Robert Forward in between
On the left hand of the next shelf, The Left Hand of Darkness comes,
The Left Hand of the Electron on its right.
They’re below the books above them, by McCaffrey and her chums:
Like Dragon Flight, Dragon Quest, Dragon’s Egg.
And a mix of science fiction,
sword & sorcery and fact
Go between.
Since the title’s all that mattered,
Other books are scattered in between.
Diane Duane’s Door Into Fire may to some of you seem wrong
Next to Heinlein’s Door ’to Summer and the like.
But I know they’re both important, and I know they both belong
With Dragon Flight, Dragon Quest, Dragon’s Egg.
