After Camelot by Alan Jay Lerner to tune by Frederick Loewe
A law was made when life had just begun here,
To outlaw any independent thoughts.
And there’s a legal limit to the fun here
In Camazotz.
Your TV must be turned on at 6:30,
To occupy your brain until it rots.
By order, nothing’s violent or dirty
In Camazotz.
Camazotz! Camazotz!
I know it seems a little strict.
But in Camazotz! Camazotz!
Life’s easy to predict.
The little boys play ball from four ’til sundown.
The girls must skip their ropes in perfect synch.
And all because there’s lots
Of bureaucratic snots
Enforcing blind conformity
On folks in Camazotz.
All citizens are nursed on standard nipples
And laid to rest in standard grassy plots.
We euthanize all geniuses and cripples
In Camazotz.
Camazotz! Camazotz!
I know it gives a person chills.
But in Camazotz! Camazotz!
You must have standard skills.
All wives must wake their husbands up at sunrise.
By eight, the morning coffee must be brewed.
And all because there’s lots
Of bureaucratic snots
Enforcing blind conformity
On folks in Camazotz.
