Inspiration: A Civil Campaign by Lois McMaster Bujold
We are merely beetles,
Hiding in the wall.
Modified by Man,
But Nature’s plan runs through us all —
All our lives, beginning when we hatch.
This makes Barrayaran beetles
Hard to catch.
We are merely beetles,
Hideous as sin.
Altered for one purpose.
What’s on the surface stayed the way it’s been.
Nature never played with our full range.
We are Barrayaran beetles,
Yours to change.
Chorus: |
Barrayaran beetles, Breeding in your wall. Treading near us carelessly, the strongest man may fall. Born of evolution, an engineering feat, But gardeners and cooks made us complete. |
We are merely beetles,
Dressed up to look nice.
Honey-like, but never sweet,
What we secrete just needs some spice.
Bees get your respect. It’s just not fair!
We are Barrayaran butterbugs.
So there.
