I ain’t no meal. I ain’t no buy.
I ain’t no catch so they say of me.
Shun Charlie’s meat! Shun Charlie’s bite!
Shun Charlie’s bid for mortality!
Tough tuna fish from the old tuna school.
Never caught! Never killed! Why is fate so cruel?
I got guts, I got brains, got a heart, and what’s more,
I got taste like the best of them albacore.
Each tuna boat would this poor tuna hail.
Tuna net! Tuna hook! But to no avail.
Measure up, they would say, or get out of the can.
You’re not tasteful enough for our tuna brand.
Voice like a man. Shape like a fish.
Why, just think how I’d look in your casserole dish!
For too many a year I have lived all alone.
Do the honor of rending me flesh from bone.
Proud tuna fish with the fine tuna taste.
It’s a crime for such talent to go to waste!
Why, just ask any mermaid you happen to see
How amazingly tender this fish can be.
Just one little fish in a big cold sea.
